INSPECTOR General of Police (IGP), Mr Simon Sirro, has commended the Singida regional defence and security committee for controlling highway robberies in the region, restoring peace and tranquility in the area.
IGP Sirro showered the praise on the
committee in his remarks he made here yesterday shortly after inspecting
a special police parade mounted in honour of his visit.
IGP Sirro observed that data on criminal
incidents available in his office showed that there was an alarming
spate of armed robberies on the Dar es Salaam-Singida- Mwanza highway,
which previously occurred in the region but recently decreased
tremendously.
He noted that the decline was apparently
attributed to the good performance of the competent regional defence
and security committee, mutual cooperation from the residents and the
impartial news coverage done by the media in the region.
“The committee in its own cannot control
the rampant criminal actions but with the sincere cooperation from
regional residents everything is possible. I also humbly appreciate the
contribution rendered by the media in informing the public. I
congratulate them all,” he said.
The Police Chief, who has been on a
working tour in the Lake Zone regions before arriving in Singida region,
told journalists here that the purpose of his visit was to remind the
police officers of their responsibilities, emphasizing the need for them
to serve all the people equally.
“But most of all, I want every leader in
the police force to fulfill his/her responsibility fully. I will not
hesitate to take stern measures against any arrant member of the Force,”
he cautioned.
