THE government has thanked the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) for its support in helping Tanzanians in the fight against poverty through various programmes.

For almost two decades, UNCDF in partnership with the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government, has been working with local government authorities to implement the Local Finance Initiative (LFI) Programme for economic empowerment.

In a speech read on his behalf by Kilimanjaro Regional Administrative Secretary Engineer Aisha Amour Iyombe, Engineer Iyombe said the Kalemawe Project, which is the collaboration of Same District Council with Ndungu and Kalemawe administrative wards, local NGOs and development partners, will ultimately serve Same residents.
He called on participants in the workshop which focused on issues of ownership, institutional and legal framework, governance, rehabilitation technical issues and commercial fishing to fully commit their energies to realise the benefits of the project.
Participants who earlier visited the commercial fish farm at Ruvu for familiarisation tour welcomed the project and called for execution of the programme.
Same District Commissioner Rosemary Staki who has been championing the public private partnership in owning and managing the economy said the district is ready to implement the project, proposing the company’s ring fencing against dirty politics.
