TPC suspends two over abuse of office

Sunday News Reporter
THE Board of Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC) has revoked the appointment of two senior officials and suspended two managers for embezzlement and abuse of office.

The board has also called for installation of cameras and scanners to intensify war against narcotic drug business.
The suspended managers are the Head of Human Resources Department , Mr James Sando, who will be replaced by Macrice Mbodo and the corporation's Shinyanga Regional Manager, Mr Hassan Mwang’ombe, is now the new manager for Business Operations, replacing Ms Janeth Msofe.
The assistant manager of Mail and Logistics, Mr Jasson Kalile and Senior Motor Transport Officer Ambrose John were both suspended. Speaking during a press conference on these decisions in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the TPC Board Chairperson, Lieutenant Colonel (retired), Dr Haruni Kondo, said the changes are intended to improve the corporation's efficiency.
The chairperson revealed that some senior officers at the headquarters have been obstacles for the corporation frustrating its quest to attain intended targets due to mismanagement and failure to deliver. “There is a number of bogus treaties signed by some of the trusted senior officers that increase unnecessary costs to the corporation.
This can no longer be tolerated. All those who participated in this misdemeanor will have stern action taken against them,” said the chairperson. Dr Kondo reminded the workers to do away with stereotype ideas with business as usual mentality and instead, be disciplined in their operations.
“In all development plans, one cannot achieve if one does not observe integrity and the public servants code of conduct. We are determined to restore integrity among the workers,” he pointed out. He urged them to make sure TPC performs commercially and contributes to national income.
In another development, the board chairperson said that installation of cameras and parcel scanners will be of critical importance. According to him, the move would add more weight on the war against illicit narcotic drugs and support the fifth phase government's intention to end the illegal business in the country.
“Baggage and parcels scanners will be installed in all stations which we think these drug traffickers might use to smuggle in their contraband,” he noted.
