Tarime launches anti-bhang farming drive

TARIME District Commissioner (DC) Glorious Luoga has launched a vigorous drive to eradicate bhang farming in all villages where the illicit drug is under cultivation.

On Wednesday, this week, many bhang farms were destroyed during a crackdown led by the DC. The operation involved workers and 300 youths of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).
“This is a big day for us to eradicate bhang farming in Tarime and the operation is going on in the whole district today,” Luoga told reporters at Nyabichune village.
There were many bhang farms that were about to be harvested at the village. Luoga also led another two-day operation in which 37 bhang farms were destroyed at Kibasuka and Matongo wards.
About 20 bags of dried bhang were impounded, according to the Tarime/Rorya Zonal Police Commander Andrew Satta. Tarime District is the leading producer of bhang in Mara Region despite being rich in gold.
