MARA Regional Commissioner (RC), Dr Charles Mlingwa, has inspected two multi-million water projects that had been implemented with support of Singita Grumeti at Iharara and Nyiberekera villages in Serengeti District.
He welcomed the initiative, saying it will boost ongoing efforts by the government to increase availability of safe and clean water in the region. Dr Mlingwa said at present the rate of people accessing safe and clean water is 53 per cent compared to the national rate of 75 percent.
He said he was so impressed to see the two projects funded by Singita Grumeti, urging beneficiaries to safeguard the water infrastructure. The Acting Head of Community Outreach Programme Department at Singita Grumeti, Frida Mollel, said more than 160m/- had been spent to improve the two natural springs by setting up water collection points and other infrastructure.
Implementation of the water project at Nyiberekera village has been completed and the other project at Iharara village is expected to be ready late this month
. Mollel informed Dr Mlingwa that several teachers and about 500 students of Issenye Secondary School would also start getting safe and clean water from the Iharara water project once the work is completed. She said Singita Grumeti had in the past years implemented many projects aimed at improving water supply in Serengeti and Bunda districts.
