Couple behind bar for illegal ivory haul

The Kisutu Resident Magiatrate's Court in Dar es Salaam today sentenced a couple, Peter Kabi and his wife Leonida Kabi to 55 years imprisonment each, for illegal hunting of wild game.

Principal Resident Magistrate Huruma Shaidi convicted the couple of three offences of leading an organised crime and unlawful possession of 93 Elephant Ivory tusks as well as dealing in 212 pieces of such tusks, all valued at more than 2bn/- Immediately after the court session, the Director of Wildlife, Mr Alexander Songorwa, convened a press conference at the court premises and called on citizens to join efforts with the government in the war against the crime.
