Zambia and Zimbabwe have started using a single tourist visa for both countries.
The neighbouring states, separated
by the famous Victoria Falls, signed a two-year Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) that would allow the use of the multinational visa,
known as the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area, Kaza
univisa.
The agreement
Zambia's Minister of Home Affairs
Stephen Kampyongo and Zimbabwe's Ignatius Chombo signed the agreement in
the border town of Livingstone.
Zambia was excited to launch the
two-year Kaza Univisa that was expected to improve the movement of
tourists and promote the sector in the two neighbouring countries, Mr
Kampyongo said.
He said the agreement would promote Zambia and Zimbabwe as combined tourist destinations of choice.
The lead
Dr Chombo described the signing of
MOU as historic because Zambia and Zimbabwe had taken the lead in the
implementation of the Univisa in southern Africa.
Zambia and Zimbabwe piloted a one-year Univisa project which was launched in November 2014.
