Land owners reminded to acquire title deeds

MINISTER for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development William Lukuvi has directed all owners of land plots to secure title deeds by March next year.

He also directed Maganzo Mining investors to compensate villagers who had given way to the investment project according to the value of their properties. The Minister issued the directives at the week end when he toured Kishapu District in Shinyanga Region to hear long-standing land disputes in the area.
He said government was well placed to end land disputes, saying plans were afoot to assist nationals acquire title deeds.
According to the minister, individuals who shall make payments earlier will receive the documents within a month. At Mhunze, the minister said title deeds were a must as they help land owners access loan in various financial institutions.
“Most of you have built your structures on unregistered plots. You have time to pay voluntarily before we decide to seize all unregistered plots.
There will be no refund and the plot shall be put on sell to others.” Regarding Maganzo mining investor, the minister emphasized that the investor must pay the villagers as per the evaluation of the value of the properties.
In what could be described as a surprise, the minister urged the villagers to continue using the farms until they are fully compensated.
He, however, warned the investor over using force as it violates investment permit and license. He lauded the District Council for addressing common land disputes.
