TANZANIA Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) and General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) have agreed to foster trade ties, with CGEM expected to host the 17th TPSF Annual General Meeting in Rabat, Morocco next year.
The two private sector supreme organs
inked the cooperation agreement during last week’s royal visit by
Moroccan King Mohamed VI. It will be the first time for the TPSF, which
is chaired by Dr Reginald Mengi, to hold its AGM in the far North
African country.
TPSF Executive Director Godfrey Simbeye
told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam yesterday, “We expect to hold our
general meeting in Morocco.” The meeting, he said, will open up new
investment opportunities for both countries.
Moroccan Business Community lead by CGEM
Chairperson Amine Bouarti held a three day meeting in Dar es Salaam
ahead of the three-day visit by King Mohamed VI. Mr Simbeye described
the deliberations between the two business institutions as fruitful,
saying more trade and investments were expected as a result.
Apparently, there are specific figures
regarding the trade volume between Tanzania and Morocco but data from
the Morocco’s ministry of economy and Trade shows that trade with
sub-Saharan African countries rose by an average of 12 percent annually
between 2003 and 2013.
Mr Simbeye could not offer more detail
regarding the trip but highlighted that all participating members will
need to foot their transport bills. The arrival of Moroccan King in
Tanzania has opened up new opportunities with economics analysts saying
Tanzania can also learn from Morocco’s strongest public sector.
