THE influx of Burundi refugees in Tanzania poses major challenges to the World Food Programme (WFP) as it experiences a shortfall in funding, it was disclosed yesterday.

Wohlgemuth, revealed this during a brief visit to the Tanzania Standard
Newspapers Limited (TSN) headquarters in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
He said that according to figures from
the UN High Commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR) that between September and
October the agency recorded more than 10,000 arrivals.
“This is a large number of refugees
crossing over into the country per month when compared to the number of
refugees recorded in April, May and June, this year,” he explained.
The situation has adversely affected
WFP’s financial needs, hence the appeal for further support from donors
to address the situation. to WFP Tanzania’s Burundian Refugees External
Situation Report 2016, as of October 10 over 167,000 Burundian refugees
had entered the country in April 2015
