THE government has embarked on preparations for identification, registration and monthly pension payment to all elderly people in Tanzania Mainland. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children Sihaba Nkinga asked the senior citizens to remain patient, saying the arrangements to pay them pensions were well underway.
She said there are factors to consider
before starting dishing out the money to the elderly, citing resource
mobilisation as one of the key factors.
“As I speak to you now we have already
started data collection of all the elderly people across the Mainland
and we are jointly working together to ensure the exercise is done
within three months or so in collaboration with the Local Government
Authorities,” she said
