Police officer in custody over exam cheating stunt

A POLICE officer has been expelled after he was hired to sit for the ongoing Form IV national exam on behalf of a student at Mwanakwerekwe ‘A’ Secondary School, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hassan Nassir Ali said here yesterday.

“After thorough investigation, we confirmed that Hassan Haji Jecha with registration No. F 95 92 attempted to cheat by sitting for a Kiswahili exam paper on November 04, 2016 on behalf of a student named Said Mwinyi Haji.
We are preparing to take him to court,” Mr Ali said. Adding, “We have decided to expel him because we cannot allow tarnishing the image of the police force.” Mr Ali, the Regional Police Commander (RPC) for Urban West Region, said it is sad that Jecha who had served as a Field Force Unit (FFU) officer for ten years, has recklessly and dishonestly lost his job.
He said Jecha who while attempting to cheat dressed in plain cloth, entered in the examination room pretending to be candidate Said Mwinyi Haji. Fortunately, the exam invigilator managed to discover that he (Jecha) was not the right person.
A teacher at Mwanakwerekwe Secondary School said that doing examination for another person is unacceptable.
The RPC said investigations are underway to find out about the relationship between the expelled police officer and the student who hired him before filing a case against both. The ACP said Jecha is currently a student at the Zanzibar University (ZU
