Mwinyi toasts JPM’s good show

DAILY NEWS Reporter
RETIRED President Ali Hassan Mwinyi yesterday expressed his admiration for the administration of President John Magufuli, especially on the way he has battled corruption and improved public service accountability.

He described the one-year in office of the ‘Fifth-Phase’ president as exemplary and a development ‘tsunami’.
The former head of state, who succeeded Founder President, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, in 1985, said during his maiden meeting with Dr Magufuli that the incumbent head of state has done wonders during the short period he has been in office.
The two had a tete-a-tete, which the second president said it was meant to commend the head of state for his one-year in office since he was sworn-in to office last November.
It also meant to congratulate President Magufuli “for the well-done job during his presidency,’’ an official statement released by the Directorate of Presidential Communications said. “Corruption existed since the late Mwalimu Nyerere era. He crushed it but there are some leftovers.
When we took over every one did his best, but Dr Magufuli’s one year in office has brought a tsunami. I am very impressed,” Mzee Mwinyi stated. He said the efforts made by Magufuli’s administration to combat corruption are evident compared with past experience.
The retired president explained that the new government had managed to improve public service accountability, urging the public and other leaders to support the president’s efforts. “The rest of us must support him by praying for him, help him by changing and always tell the truth where others are bent misleading.
Let’s not leave a few to spread rumours and lies. “Everyone can say anything depending on one’s own perception and desire but frankly speaking, we all know about the good job done by President Magufuli,” Mzee Mwinyi noted.
Meanwhile, Dr Magufuli yesterday also met with Lands, Housing and Human Settlement Minister, Mr William Lukuvi, at the State House. There were no immediate official details on the meeting.
