Ilemela officials told to move to head offices

DAILY NEWS Reporters in Ilemela
VICE President Samia Suluhu Hassan has concluded his fiveday official tour of Mwanza Region by issuing a one-month ultimatum to staff and senior government officials in Ilemela District to shift from the neighbouring district to the headquarters of their district.

The VP issued a directive yesterday when addressing residents and staff of Ilemela Municipal Council who turned up at the inauguration of the administration block of the council and the handing over of 1,074 school desks that were donated by the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania.
According to Ms Hassan, the district’s leaders have been citing absence of government houses in the district as a major reason as to why they were staying in the neighbouring district.
“I want you to move to your district within this period so that you can be closer to the people and help them in solving various problems that afflict them,’’ she said. In Nyamagana District, the VP laid a foundation stone at the Nyakato abattoir project in Mwanza region, directing authorities there to observe keenly the 3bn/- project and that appropriate measures should be instituted against those who will try to frustrate the implementation of the project.
The VP said she does not expect the implementation of the project to be done below standards because it is a business project that will help Mwanza City Council to get enough revenue that will help in the implementation of other development projects.
In the same vein, Ms Hassan directed Mwanza Regional Commissioner (RC), John Mongella to ensure proper supervision of the Nyakato abattoir management and that those who will be employed should posses requisite qualifications so that there is proper efficiency.
On revenue collection, the VP directed all leaders of the district councils in Mwanza region to increase pace in the collection of revenue electronically from different sources so as to boost implementation of various development projects.
She further called upon all residents in the region to demand their receipts when purchasing various products and services so that they can help in revenue collection that will later help in provision of various social initiatives
