CHINA has through its Non- Emergency Humanitarian assistance donated items worth 348m/-to Tanzania Red Cross Society (TRCS) to strengthen the society’s disaster preparedness.
Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Lu
Younqing said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the donation will benefit
Tanzanians in general but largely the most vulnerable during disasters
and emergencies. “Tanzania Red Cross Society plays an important role in
disaster management.
I invite TRCS to visit China to exchange
experience with their Chinese counterparts,” said the Chinese Envoy at a
brief ceremony to hand over the donated materials, which included an
ambulance, 40 computer sets, five gasoline water pumps, five
photocopiers, 20 tents and 500 mosquito nets.
TRCS acting President Mwadini Jecha
thanked China for the donation, describing the donation as a culmination
of a process that commenced about four years ago when the Red Cross
Society of China resolved to make generous donation to TRCS.
“This does not only symbolise the long
standing cordial relations between our two National Red Cross Societies
but also marks another milestone in various endeavors aimed at
strengthening the disaster preparedness and response capacity of TRCS,”
he said.
Mr Jecha noted that the main goal of the
society was to mobilise resources through the power of humanity towards
improving the situation of the most vulnerable in the country. “We hope
this spirit of collaboration between our two National Red Cross
Societies (Tanzania and China) will continue,” he said.
