TANGA Regional Commissioner (RC) Martin Shigela, has assured the European Union (EU) that the region is safe and its environment has been improved for the benefit of prospective investors.
They thus should not hesitate to come
and invest in various economic sectors. The regional commissioner gave
the statement yesterday as he was speaking during a round table
discussion between Tanga port management and a delegation from the
European Union.
Apart from looking into opportunities,
they also got a briefing from Tanga port manager Mr Henry Alika. He said
the regional government was ready to welcome the prospective investors
from the European Union and hopped that the coming of the envoys would
open up the doors for investors.
On his side the EU High Commissioner, Mr
Roeland Vancle Geer said the EU has projected to invest in Tanga port
infrastructure development in order to ease the trade between the EU and
Tanzania through Tanga.
Mr Geer, who led the delegation of
twelve ambassadors from EU member states to Tanzania, said that they
have decided to visit Tanga to see port developments and other
opportunities, so that business people from their countries would come
to invest. He said Tanga has a great opportunity to attract prospective
investors, following the presence of a big pipe line project that would
open up the way to various economic opportunities.
He however said that the development of
port infrastructure was necessary as through port facilities the
business could be easily facilitated, because it is a major route for
importation and exportation of goods.
