DEMOCRATIC Republic of Congo’s President Joseph Kabila today officially opened East and Central Africa tallest building in Dar es Salaam.
President Kabila arrived on Monday for three days state visit.
President Kabila said the honour bestowed to him was for the DRC.
“This is for DRC, Mr President and not
me,” Mr Kabila said,“ the port though is in Dar es Salaam but is ours
[Dar and Kinshasa]”.
He said 50 per cent of total DRC exports are going through Dar Port.
“We will continue using the Dar port, as
things have improved in recent days” Mr Kabila said transport
infrastructure should be improved to support smooth moving of cargo.
DRC copper production has increased from 100,000 tones to around 1.2 million tonnes in the last ten years.
Thus Tanzania should prepare best to
handle those tonnages. President John Magufuli assures President Kabila
of close business cooperation between Dar es Salaam and Kinshasa.
“The officially opening of this tallest
building by you, your excellence will cement further the utilisation of
port by Congolese businesspersons,” Dr Magufuli said before welcoming
his counterpart to officially open the building.
On top of that the president said the
Dar es Salaam port have extended cargo bound to DRC clearance free time
to 30 days from 14 days.
The 35-floor building will house TPA's
headquarter offices, some institutions such as Tanzania Revenue
Authority (TRA), Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA), Tanzania
Bureau of Standards (TBS), Government Chief Chemist and Weight and
Measurements Agency have desks at TPA.
