THE Vice-President, Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan, leaves Dar es Salaam today for a three-day state visit to Zambia.
According to a State House statement
issued in the city yesterday, the vice- president will also attend the
swearingin ceremony of Zambian President-Elect Edgar Chagwa Lungu
scheduled for tomorrow, representing President John Magufuli. President
Magufuli had originally been scheduled to attend the swearing-in of Mr
Lungu.
Tanzania took over the SADC Organ on
Cooperation in Politics, Defence and Security’s chairmanship from
Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi during the 36th SADC Summit of
Heads of State and Government held in Mbabane, Swaziland, on September
1.
During his visit, President Magufuli was
scheduled to meet various African leaders who will attend the
swearingin ceremony to be held at Hero’s Stadium in the Zambian capital,
Lusaka.
Ms Samia will represent President
Magufuli, who decided to cancel his trip at the last minute to enable
him to follow up and handle Saturday’s earthquake in Kagera Region that
left 16 people dead, 170 injured and more than 2,000 destroyed or
developing cracks
