TRA surpasses target, collects 3.6bn/- in Kagera

(TRA) in Kagera Region has collected 3.6bn/- last month, an equivalent of 102 per cent of its target, it has been disclosed.

TRA Regional Manager, Adam Ntoga said in an interview that the target was to collect 3.599bn/-. The achievement is attributed to cooperation from tax-payers who heeded President John Magufuli’s call to demand receipts.
The achievement is also attributed to efforts taken by Kagera Regional Commissioner (RC) Salim Kijuu to curb smuggling of goods across borders and use of the Electronic Fiscal Devices. According to Ntoga, revenue collection at Murongo border post in Kyerwa District increased to 132.9m/-, surpassing the set target of 56.1m/-.
This was equivalent to 237 per cent. A total of 2.024bn/- was collected by the Customs Department in August, surpassing the target of 1.805bn/-. Ntoga said the Mutukula border post in Misenyi District collected 1.438bn/- above its target of 1.344bn/-.
In August last year, TRA collected 3.496bn/- . The Excise Duties Department collected 1.642bn/- above its target of 1.793bn/-. In Ngara District, TRA collected 340.4m/- surpassing the target of 314.8m/- while Karagwe District collected 162.8m/- of its target of 114.3m/-. Meanwhile, Ntoga said 32.209bn/- were collected between July last year to April 30 this year compared to the target of 27,151bn/- .
He said TRA had set to collect 14.120bn/- as domestic taxes was between July last year to April this year but actual collected stood at 15.745bn/-.
The target for custom and excise duties within the same period was to collect 13.032bn/- but actual collection was 16.465bn/-, equivalent to 126.35 per cent. TRA is working closely with other security organs to curb smuggling of goods by dishonest traders.
