Tanzania vies for world tourism awards

TANZANIA has registered a total of 10 entries in nine categories and nominated for the 23rd Annual World Travel (WTA) in an event planned to take place at Olhuveli Beach and Spa Resort in the Republic of Maldives on December 2.

According to TTB statement released in Dar es Salaam today, under the Africa nominations 2016, a total of 32 entries for Tanzania have been recorded under 17 categories.
This comes five months after Mount Kilimanjaro which is the highest mountain in Africa, and the highest free-standing mountain in the world, being declared Africa’s leading tourist attraction in 2016 during the World Travel Awards Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony held in Zanzibar Tanzania on 9th April 2016.
Entries from Tanzania and their categories are Tanzania (World’s Leading Safari Destination 2016), Zanzibar-Tanzania (World’s Leading Dive Destination 2016), Zanzibar- Tanzania (World Leading Island Destination); and Mt. Kilimanjaro-Tanzania (World’s Leading tourist attraction).
Others Diamond La Gemma dell’Est Zanzibar -Tanzania (World’s Leading Beach resorts 2016) Essque Zalu Zanzibar - Tanzania (World’s Honeymoon Resort 2016), Beyond Mnemba Island Lodge-Tanzania and Singita Sasakwa Lodge – Tanzania (World’s Leading Luxury Lodge 2016), Beyond Mnembo Island Lodge Zanzibar – Tanzania (World’s Leading Private Island Resort 2016) and Chumbe Island Coral Park – Tanzania (World’s Leading Conservation Company).
According to the statement, winners of this competition will be decided by votes where with a vote cast by qualifying travel professionals and consumers.
Voting for the World and Travel Technology nominations was opened on September 23, this year and voting exercise is set to end on October, 24 this year.
“We are delighted to inform you of your nomination in the 23rd annual World Travel Awards and I congratulate your achievement”,” the statement quoted the World Travel Awards President Graham Cooke as saying.
