The design of the roof is inspired on
the traditional sailing boats that can be found at the Dar es Salaam
Coast. The new terminal III is designed—together with Netherlands
Airport Consultants—for the anticipated growth of international air
traffic, leaving the existing international Terminal II to cater for
domestic flights.
The terminal building in phases will
then provide further capacity to facilitate six million annual
passengers and expects to be completed late next year.
The project, to cost Euro 235 million
(518bn/-), is partly funded by the government in collaboration with BAM
International of Netherlands and a consultant from Arab Consulting
Engineers of Egypt.
