DAILY NEWS Reporter
A NEW college that will offer courses in agriculture was launched in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries William Ole Nasha unveiled the Borigaram Agriculture Technical College, expressing optimism that it will contribute immensely to food security and poverty eradication in the country.
Located in Chekeni Mwasonga, Kisarawe II, in Kigamboni District, the college’s vision is to support low-income and underprivileged groups as well as raising up competent people through supporting further education for student in agriculture.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, the deputy minister emphasised that the college, sponsored by the Korean Buddhism community, will help the country to create more experts in agricultural sector, challenging Tanzanians to grab the academic opportunity.
“This is the greatest opportunity for Kigamboni residents and Tanzanians at large, we should therefore explore it so that we can double our experts, considering especially that it’s the second college that offers unique courses in agriculture,’’ said the deputy minister.
He said the country had 14 colleges offering agricultural courses, noting that the newly launched was the second with courses in fruits and vegetables.
He said the country needs 20,000 veterinary officers but the current supply was half of the country’s demand, adding that the new college has come at the right time.
The college principal, Joseph Ndunguru said the coming of the new college would reduce the scarcity of veterinary officers, adding that apart from training students admitted to the college, residents surrounding the college, especially the youth, would also receive training that will help them reduce unemployment rate.
He said students who will be admitted will receive training without paying tuition fees as everything was fully sponsored including accommodation and food. The students according to Mr Ndunguru, will only be required to pay for their practical training.
