Government commits to construction of tractor factory

THE government has made assurance that the envisaged factory for manufacturing tractors, power tillers and warehouses for storing food crops will be implemented as planned.

Polish government issued a loan for the project amounting to 110 million US dollars.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industries, Trade and Investment, Dr Adelhelm Meru, disclosed the assistance in Dar es Salaam yesterday when he met with a team of investors from Poland in Dar es Salaam.
He noted that the move was in line with the government’s industrialization drive. “We will improve the industrial sector in the country and we believe that there are various investors out there who are willing to grab the opportunities,” he said.
Dr Meru also revealed that a cement factory to be built in Tanga was expected to employ about 15,000/- people upon completion. According to the PS, the factory will be built by investors from China and it will also produce quality tiles.
One of the investors from Poland, Julius Zellah, said the factory will be built in October and will be situated in Kibaha. “The returns of the investment will be after 40 years. The price of tractors will be cheap.
The government of Poland will provide funds for the project,” he said. He added that the factory would have eight service centres.
They will provide farm implements. Producers from Europe will bring modern technology by producing new and quality products and sell them at affordable prices
