TANZANIA Roads Agency (Tanroads) has inked down an agreement worth 1.1bn/- with the Tanzania Telecommunication Company Limited (TTCL), to connect all the agency’s offices countrywide with internet services.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by
the Tanroads Chief Executive, Mr Patrick Mfugale and TTCL Chief
Executive Officer, Dr Kamugisha Kazaura, in Dar es Salaam yesterday. Mr
Mfugale said at the event that project to be completed in 12 months
period is expected to boost efficiency of the agency.
“Tanroads value experience and technical
skills that TTCL has, particularly the use of the national fibre optic,
thus the internet connections in all the agency’s offices through use
of modern electronic system will enhance efficiency in its operations,”
he said.
The project is being implemented in 25
regions and three weighing bridges using TTCL fiber optic. The regions
are Singida, Tabora, Kigoma, Tanga, Mtwara, Kibaha, Iringa, Musoma and
Bukoba.
Others are Dar es Salaam (Keko and
Mabibo), Lindi, Makambako, Mwanza, Songea, Manyara, Shinyanga, Dodoma,
Mbeya, Sumbawanga, Simiyu (Bariadi), Arusha, Mpanda, Moshi, Geita and
Morogoro.
The weighing bridges are Sirari,
Horohoro and Vigwaza. TTCL Chief Executive Officer, Dr Kamugisha
Kazaura, thanked Tanroads for giving the telecom firm to execute such
huge project and pledged to complete it on the time as per the contract.
He said TTCL is executing the business
transformation that will ultimately lead to the realisation of the fixed
mobile convergence, a big differentiator that cannot easily be
replicated by other operators.
The strategic plan, which will bring
about business transformation within the current competition in the
telecom industry, was made by the TTCL management when it started work
in February 2013. To date, TTCL has connected private firms, public
companies and some 80 government offices with the most efficient telecom
infrastructures
