Ms Sarah will be the third successive
female British High Commissioner to Tanzania. Ms Cooke said she is
committed to strengthening the two countries partnership and look
forward to getting to know Tanzania and its people.
“I am delighted and deeply honoured to
be taking up my new position as British High Commissioner in Dar es
Salaam. “The United Kingdom and Tanzania enjoy a strong, longstanding
partnership and work closely together on many shared interests,
including trade, investment, development and security,” she said.
Ms Cooke joined the British Civil Service in 2002.
She has worked in a number of UK
Government departments including the Department for International
Development (DFID), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Prime
Minister’s Strategy Unit in the Cabinet Office.
She also served as the Deputy Head of
the Commission for Africa Secretariat. Most recently, she was the DFID
Country Representative in Bangladesh.
Prior to joining the British Civil Service, she worked as an economist in London, Guyana and the Solomon Islands.
