TANZANIA Ports Authority (TPA) yesterday donated 250m/- funds to facilitate purchase of school desks in Dar es Salaam Region. In line with that, the authority also contributed 165m/- to support purchase of the products in other eleven up-country Municipal Councils with the shortage.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TPA, Prof Ignas Rubaratuka, said the donations aimed at implementing their commitment to support President Magufuli campaign against shortage of desks in the country.
“TPA has been in the forefront of facilitation of various development social responsibilities … and through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the authority is always committed to give back their profit to the community,” he said.
Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Paul Makonda highly commended TPA for the support towards the development of education sector in the country. Mr Makonda said the support would help ease the shortage of the desks in the city.
He said the region had a shortage of 800,000 desks. “Despite having been told to complete the shortage of desks by last month, we (Dar es Salaam) still face a big shortage of desks, your (TPA) support provides a move to curb the crisis,” he said.
TPA Director General, Mr Deusdedit Kakoko, said the support was given through the CSR and donated in collaboration with the TPA management and the workers to help curb the crisis in Dar es Salaam including other regions facing the crisis.
“We recognise the campaign you (Dar es Salaam) are conducting and that is why we decided to donate the funds to facilitate the purchase of desks,” he said, adding that the funds had already been deposited to the respective accounts ready to be used in the purchase
