Police sentenced 15 years for killing journalist

THE High Court, Iringa Zone, sentenced to 15 years a police officer, Pasificus Simon, accused of manslaughter a TV journalist, David Mwangosi, today.
Mwangosi was killed on September 2, 2012 at Nyololo village, Mufindi District in Iringa Region, after a confrontation with police while covering Chadema’s branch opening rally.
The policeman was arraigned for the first time on September 12, 2012, was charged with the murder of the journalist working for Channel Ten.
However, the court changed the charges to manslaughter.
Judge Paul Kihwelo said, when changing the charges, that the state failed to convince the court whether the policeman had deliberately killed the journalist.
