Former Samsung East Africa vice president Robert
Ngeru has been appointed the regional managing director of a South
African mobile handsets distributor, Allied Mobile.
The South African firm’s entry into Kenya is part of a wider
expansion plan across Africa including Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia,
Uganda, Rwanda, DRC, Angola, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana.
The firm specialises in supply of mobile handsets and management of retail shops on behalf of telecoms firms.
Mr Ngeru said the firm will be seeking partnerships
with all the four local telecommunication firms: Safaricom, Airtel,
Orange and Equitel to manage their retail outlets.
“It is a unique business, we (Allied Mobile) will
be approaching all the mobile operators here and other East Africa
countries with a proposal to supply and manage their retail shops,” Mr
Ngeru said in a phone interview.
Mr Ngeru worked with Samsung since 2010 before
quitting last October. He previously worked as mobile communications
manager at Microsoft and was a general manager at Motorola.
“Under the arrangement we take over full staffing
and overall customer support at the retail outlets. The telcos however
retain the brand names to the outlets.
