AS part of strategies to check the rising crime wave in Dar es Salaam, landlords have been called upon to fix photographs in their lease agreements.

Addressing journalists yesterday, the Dar es Salaam Special Zonal Police Commander, Mr Simon Sirro, said the police force was undertaking measures to check crime in the wake of recent wanton killings that have occurred in the country.
Such incidents include the beheadings at Amboni near Tanga City in which eight people from two households were left dead and several other horrific incidents in Arusha, Mwanza and Dar es Salaam.
There was also an attack in a mosque along Utemini Street in Nyamagana District within Mwanza City, whereby several people were hacked to death in the middle of a ‘Fajr’ prayer. “Some criminals tend to rent rooms or entire houses and stay for either a week or two and then they disappear,” said Commander Sirro.
He, therefore, called on the local government authorities to make follow-ups on the matter and ensure their offices acquire photographs of tenants in their respective areas. “Doing so will assist the police to easily identify a number of criminals residing in those areas,” he said.
Commander Sirro added that they are holding a house girl in relation to the killing of Aneth Msuya (30) which occurred at the end of May, this year, at Kibada Block 16, Temeke Municipality in the city.
He, further pointed out that they arrested five suspects on May 30, this year, in relation to the murder of a businessman, William Mroso (38), a resident of Mbezi Msigani and 13 others in related criminal incidents of armed robbery.
Mr Sirro named the suspects as Richard Kalinga (37), a resident of Kimara; James Lumato (20) and Priches Paschal (35), both from King’ong’o; Masoud Ally (30) from Tabata- Shule and Shaibu Juma (23) from Tabata Matumbi.
“The suspects are being interrogated and once investigation is complete they will be taken to court for further legal measures,” he noted. The police also impounded 10 pieces of elephant tusks weighing 13Kgs worth 198m/- on June 2, this year, at Mbagala Kibonde Maji in a motor vehicle with Registration Number T477 AXS, a Suzuki Vitara.
The vehicle belongs to MT 66807 SGT George Kwisema of AFC HQ.
Along with the tusks, the police have also arrested SGT Kwisema, a resident of Kibonde Maji; Shafi Muhibu (30) of Mbagala Kuu and Asha Hassan (28) of Mbagala Kokoto.
In another incident, three people were arrested at Chadibwa, Magogoni Street in Kigamboni on May 31, for possession of 35 bags of smuggled sugar each weighing 50Kgs.
The suspects are Said Bakari (25) who was found with 15 bags in a motor vehicle with Registration Number T804 BMV, a Toyota Carina and Hamad Seleman (46), with 15 bags as well in a vehicle with Registration Number T571 AXV, a Toyota Premio.
