Huawei eyes to strengthen foothold in Tanzania

CHINA’s Huawei Technologies Company has said Tanzania is among fast growing countries in Africa on Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The firm estimates that the ICT use is growing at between 15 and 20 per cent annually thus it has put more focus on future investment in the country. According to Huawei they will continue investing by hiring local talents, building networks including data centres, selling mobile phones and helping the country to become more ICT connected.
Huawei Vice-President International Mediated Affairs, Roland Sladek, said since ICT argue well with young generation, the country has an advantage of cementing the use of the technology. Huawei has a very strong presence in Southern and Eastern Africa and a headquarters in Shenzhen, China.
Huawei, a leading global ICT solutions provider, works with partners around the world, is one of the leaders in terms of innovations, research development.
Huawei Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Ms Holy Ranaivozanany said under Seeds for the Future, the company invites top students to China for a three-week programme where they meet with experts.
“The programme aims at breaking the gap between Tanzania and China on ICT progress as things change every day,” she said.
The Seeds for the Future programme was launched in 2008 and has so far partnered with 150 universities in 67 countries from Europe to Asia, Africa and America.
At least 15,000 students were trained. Huawei is the official advisor to Tanzania government on ICT fields. The MoU was signed last year.
