THE government has set aside 59.5bn/- in the forthcoming 2016/2017 budget to empower people in villages in implementation of President John Magufuli’s pledge of providing 50m/- to each village.
The Minister of State in the Prime
Minister's Office (Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment,
Youth and the Disabled), Dr Abdallah Possi, said in Parliament yesterday
that implementation of President Magufuli's promise to provide 50m/- to
every village for development would begin in the 2016/2017 financial
year.
He said the funds would be disbursed to
the villages after being approved in Parliament and after completion of
special arrangements for their disbursement.
The minister said the government would
put in place special arrangements that will include provision of
entrepreneurship skills to help the beneficiaries make effective use of
the funds.
He said the government was finalizing
preparations on arrangements for provision of the money as well as
entrepreneurial skills to the intended beneficiaries to make sure that
the funds were properly utilized.
The minister said the National Economic
Empowerment Council in collaboration with the President's Office's
Regional Administration and Local Government, have been given the task
of coordinating provision of the funds.
Dr Possi was answering a question from
Esther Mahawe (Special Seats, CCM) who wanted to know when the
government will dish out the 50m/- to each village as pledged by
President Magufuli
