In a presentation delivered by the Permanent Secretary in the
Ministry for Constitution and Legal Affairs at the 25th session of the
UPR in Geneva, Professor Sifuni Mchome, said the last review
recommendations were accepted and disseminated to stakeholders to create
a national roadmap for their implementation.
“Among the recommendations include having National Human Rights Action Plan which was launched in 2013 implemented in Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar by government actors, civil society and the private sector,” he said.
He added, “It also has a monitoring and evaluation mechanism coordinated by the commission for Human Rights and Good Governance which has held various training sessions on the action plan for both.” Prof Mchome said the country would like to acknowledge the support of the one-UN system for supporting the preparation of the Action Plan and its implementation.
On Anti-corruption measures he said process was underway to prepare the third National Anti-corruption Strategic Action Plan after the second Action Plan which was being implemented over the review period ended in 2014.
A UNITED Nations peer review (Universal Periodic Review- UPR) of Tanzania has helped the country to progress on human rights protection.
