New district councils in pipeline

DAILYNEWS Reporters in Dodoma
THE Deputy Minister of State, President’s Office, (Regional Administration and Local Governments), Selemani Jafo, said in Parliament here that his office had received many applications for formation of new councils and would not hold them up due to lack of funds.
“We cannot hold formation of new councils due to lack of funds,” he said in his reply to a question from Augustine Masele (Mbogwe- CCM) who wanted to know when employees transferred to new councils would be paid their entitlements.
He said 73 employees were transferred from Bukombe District Council to the new Mbogwe council and were claiming 164.14m/- being subsistence and disturbance allowances. The government had so far provided 15.15m/- for 18 employees and 148.99m/- were still outstanding.
The Minister said the council had asked for the remaining balance from the Ministry of Finance and Planning to pay for the 55 employees in the forthcoming 2016/2017 financial year.
The President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) would continue to make a follow up of the funds from the Treasury.
