DAILYNEWS Reporters in Dodoma
THE Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication has set aside funds in the 2016/17 budget to rehabilitate road and bridge infrastructures in different district councils destroyed by the ongoing rains.

The remarks were made here by deputy minister, Engineer Edwin Ngonyani, when responding to supplementary questions from Mr Marwa Chacha (Serengeti – Chadema) and Ms Wanne Mchemba (Special Seats – CCM).
Mr Chacha wanted to know if the government was ready to rehabilitate road and bridge infrastructures destroyed in the ongoing rains, while Mchemba wanted to know if the government was ready to repair road sections destroyed by rains in Tabora region.
“The ongoing rains have destroyed a lot of road infrastructures in Tabora region to the point that they are not passable….is the government ready to repair those sections so that the public can use the roads?” Mchemba asked.
She also wanted to know when construction of the Chaya-Tabora and Urambo-Kauliya road will be completed. In his response Eng Ngonyani assured the legislators that the government has received the requests and will work on them to ensure the infrastructures destroyed by ongoing rains are rehabilitated.
He added that once the ministry’s budget is endorsed the challenges facing public in those areas will be addressed, taking into consideration that the road fund’s 30 percent for every district council cannot carter for the rehabilitation works needed for the damaged roads and bridges.
The deputy minister said the government’s plan is to link Singida, Tabora and Kigoma with tarmac road, adding that already upgrading to tarmac levels of the Manyoni-Itigi-Chaya (89.3 km), Tabora-Ndono ( 42km), Kigoma-Kidahwe (28km), Kidahwe-Uvinza ( 76.6km) and Malagarasi bridge together with 48km linking roads has been completed.
Earlier Mr Shaaban Shekilindi (Lushoto - CCM) wanted to know when the government will upgrade the Mlalo-Makanya-Mlingano-Mashewa road and place it under the Tanzania Road Agency (TANROADS).
Eng Ngonyani said his ministry is working on the requests to upgrade the Mlalo-Makanya-Mlingano-Mashewa road to make it a regional road, together with others countrywide
