The
training conducted by the National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC)
is part of implemention of the national economic empowerment policy. The
instructors will then inculcate the knowledge to youths joining the
national service.
Presenting the certificates at the end of the training at Dar es Salaam’s Mgulani barracks over the weekend, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled) Jenista Mhagama said such knowledge will help solve employment problems in the country.
“This program will benefit youths who join the service voluntarily but fail to get employed after completion,” the minister said. The instructors came from Dar es Salaam, Coast Region and Lindi Regions.
Mhagama said entrepreneurship training to national service youths will help shape them to employ themselves in various activities such as agriculture and hospitality sector instead of depending on employment or staying idle.
She noted that the fifth phase government was serious in creating opportunities for all citizens and that the national service was one of the appropriate places to empower citizens and realise the country’s Vision 2025.
The Chief of National Service, Brigadier General Michael Isamuhayo said they are ready to offer the knowledge to youths for the benefit of the country.
“We strongly hope that this program will benefit our youths and our country at large, we are committed to see it succeed,” he said.
The Executive Secretary for NEEC, Beng’i Issa said the training program was a way of implementing the national economic empowerment policy. “This is all about empowering Tanzanians and make them competitive,” she said.
She said the training will focus on equipping the trainers with entrepreneurship knowledge and starting and managing SACCOS, Village Community Banks (VICOBA) and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs).
She added that the council will endeavor in connecting youth groups with various financial institutions to solve capital funds challenges.
The next to benefit from such training will be the Western and Central Brigades regions that include Dodoma, Kigoma, Tabora and Mwanza. After that will follow the Southern Brigade which includes Ruvuma, Mbeya, Songwe, Rukwa, Iringa and Njombe Regions.
The next to benefit will be Northern Brigade which include Tanga, Arusha and Kilimanjaro. Since the reintroduction of National Service in 2001, a number of young people joining the force has been increasing yearly.
Up to 2014, a total of 104,594 have completed the National Service. Among those, 34,291 joined the force voluntarily whereby 70 percent of them were employed by various security companies. The remaining 30 percent that is equivalent to 2,000 go home unemployed every year.
