He said the government recognises that disabled people faced various challenges, including lack of artificial organs and other facilities to enable them engage in daily activities.
He made the remarks in Dar es Salaam over the weekend during a function to hand over artificial organs worth 80m/- to people with disabilities provided by the Kamal Steel Company Limited.
“The issue of disability touches the life of everybody and anyone could face such a problem anytime. Artificial organs are very expensive and not everyone can afford to buy. Government will cooperate with our partners to continue providing you with such support,” said Dr Mwakyembe.
He said to lose any part of the body is very challenging, adding that the community should know everyone is a potential disabled person, and hence, there lies the responsibility of helping people with disabilities.
Dr Mwakyembe further added that the support provided by Kamal Steel Company Limited is significant in reducing problems that the disabled face.
Through the support, Dr Mwakyembe has helped four disabled in constituency of Kyela in Mbeya Region. Kamal Group of Companies chairman Gagan Gupta said the assistance to the disabled “is our duty as we are part of the society.
“We believe that this support of artificial organs will enable them walk and perform various activities that will generate income to them,” he said. He also promised to employ one of the people with disabilities he named as Siaga Raphael.
He will be trained to manufacture various materials -- mainly of people with disabilities. The Director General of Kamal Steel Company, Mr Sameer Gupta, said his firm has been helping people with disabilities for providing artificial organs and up to date 200 people have benefited from the assistance.
“We will continue to cooperate with our government to support people with disabilities every time in order to reduce challenges they face,” he said.
