Kajiado County Government has said it is planning ICT training sessions for its staff and members of ...
the public in order to to fast-track uptake of information technology among locals and close the ICT gap.
Governor David Ole Nkedianye said that areas lacking internet connectivity will be given first priority so as to enable residents to use the internet in creating wealth by offering access to internet-based services to conduct businesses.
He spoke this week he received Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) boss Francis Wangusi in his office where they agreed to partner with other stakeholders and service providers in enhancing access to the internet.
CA said it would hold county forums to sensitise locals on their ICT rights and responsibilities while consolidating service providers’ intervention in closing the ICT gap.
In a recent ICT access gap study released by CA, some areas in Kajiado County Mosiro, Magadi and Oloodokilan still have limited and no access to basic ICT services.
Mr Ndekianye said that his government welcomed the partnership with CA to ensure that his government also gets an efficient and stable connection.
“This can be used to link all our sub county offices via a secure wide area network thereby enabling us to enhance efficiency in service delivery and revenue collection,” he said.
Mr Wangusi said CA was focused on providing an effective platform for dialogue between consumers and service providers adding that there was a need for members of the public to be involved to ensure that consumers access quality ICT services.
The Universal Service Fund managed by CA will facilitate the development of internet access in areas considered economically unfeasible by service providers.
“As part of our mandate we have brought together various industry players to address the prevailing ICT issues in Kajiado County with the sole goal of catalysing connectivity and access to ICT services to the residents of Kajiado County,” Mr Wangusi remarked.
