THE Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Paul Makonda, has received the donation of 500 desks for 10 primary schools located in Kinondoni District.
The donation was given yesterday at
Kigogo Luhanga in Kinondoni Municipality by Cellular Phone Company, Tigo
and valued at 82.5m/-. Speaking at the school campus, Makonda asked
students to take good care of the desks and take it as motivation in
improving their education.
He also asked them to make sure that
despite the poor learning environment they face still they have the
tasks to study hard and succeed in life. He asked them to observe
discipline and respect their teachers and adhere to all the directions
so as to make their school life easier.
Makonda also appealed for the same support to other schools located in other districts such as Ilala and Temeke.
“This is the best initiative that Tigo
is taking in supporting education but still we have other districts like
Ilala and Temeke that also face similar problem and need support.”
He added: “by the time I was the
district commissioner for Kinondoni I asked for these desks but now
being the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, I am duty bound to ensure
all the schools in the region were operated under conducive learning
environment”.
Meanwhile, the Tigo Chief Executive
Officer, Diego Gutierrez, said that Tigo has been supporting many
education projects as part of its community supports.
On the 500 desks that were donated to 10
schools, each school will receive 50 desks and the beneficiaries are
Upendo, Malamba Mawili, Kawawa, Salasala, Bunju A, Makabe, Tegeta A,
Mbezi Juu, Mtongani Pamoja as well as Wazo Hill.
