Telkom Kenya has rolled out a new mobile number prefix to respond to surging subscriber numbers.
The telco whose subscriptions the government puts at 4.4 million also saw its users grow by 400,000 in the last quarter of 2015/2016.
The new prefix 0776 will support existing lines as the telco looks forward to growth in its subscriptions owing to huge investments estimated at Sh1 billion in its Sh20 data bundles among other products.
“Telkom Kenya’s 400,000 new customers in the last quarter of 2015 was an affirmation that we are a fast growing network that is meeting the evolving needs of its customers with inventive, pocket-friendly solutions across the contemporary customer preferences,” said Telkom Kenya Chief Corporate Communications Officer George Mlaghui.
Safaricom's firm grip on the market has left other players struggling to grow revenues.
