THE governments of Tanzania and India have established Information Technology resource centres to strengthen human resource capacity necessary for the growth and development of organisations in the country.
The IT resource centres have been
established at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology and Nelson
Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology (NMAIST),
Tele-education Centre at the University of Dar es Salaam and
Tele-medicine Units at Ocean Road Cancer Institute.
Also included is the Solar Power
Promotion Centre in Zanzibar and Small Industry Incubation Centre under
establishment at the Small Industries Development Organisation.
The Minister of State, President’s
Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ms Angellah
Kairuki, said the government appreciates the government of India for
investing in the sector.
The minister confirmed that in Dar es
Salaam on Tuesday as the guest of honor during the occasion of the
Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) day at the Indian
Cultural center.
Minister Kairuki said the overall aim of
the ITEC is to help alleviate shortage of skilled human resources
qualitatively and quantitatively, necessary for the country’s
development. Also is grounded on the fact that improving the quality and
number of skilled staff is critical and very beneficial for
socio-economic development.
“The number of training opportunities
availed to the public services in Tanzania has steadily grown from 24
training opportunities in 1972/1973 to 189 for the year 2015/2016,” she
said.
At the same occasion the Indian High
Commissioner for Tanzania, Mr Sandeep Arya said over the last ten years,
about 2,200 Tanzanians have been trained in India under ITEC programme
and they are setting to expand training scholarships in future.
He said during the India-Africa Forum
Summit in October 2015, India offered to expand training to 50, 0000
people over the next five years. Last year about 10,000 ITEC training
seats were offered to 161 countries across the world.
“ITEC offers 280 courses at 47 training
institutions in India in areas such as Information Technology, telecom,
renewable energy, water management, entrepreneurship, rural development,
small and medium enterprises, public administration, audit and
accounts, finance, parliamentary affairs and environment,” he said.
Mr Arya further said ITEC offers not
only training programmes in India but also deputation of Indian experts
abroad, study tours, consultancy services, disaster relief (humanitarian
assistance) and equipment supplies.
