President Uhuru Kenyatta is addressing the nation in his second last State of the Nation Address in his current term. He is expected to outline his administration's plans to grow the economy and fight corruption.
We have also increased police patrols on the streets and we have invested billions of shillings in acquiring sophisticated weapons, acquiring air power to leverage benefits of technology to improve our country's security.
Implemented specific strategies that deal with our security. We have increased number of police officers with additional 10,000 set for recruitment next week.
It is clear that media's fears in the digital migration were unfounded. We have seen a proliferation of talent and new channels available to Kenyans.
Media can choose to use their platform to burn or build your country, but I urge you to choose the later.
The President has, effectively, ordered suspension of fees and levies charged on coffee farmers and has directed the AG and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary to do the same for tea, sugar and review other crops.
I remind the Fourth Estate they have great power and responsibility, but they have a sacred duty to safeguard the unity of our country.
Our business should not be to make doing business difficult but to simplify the process.
We seek to address the fees and levies that are bottlenecks in the agricultural industry especially in sugarcane growing sector.
Agriculture mainstay of our economy. I appointed a task-force to address challenges facing the coffee sector. I direct all levies be waived. Directed review of other sectors; sugar and tea, for way forward. I am directing prohibitive levies at NEMA, Communications Authority be reviewed with immediate effect.
Fellow Kenyans, we have vulnerable Kenyans that deserve a helping hand. We are not a rich country that can afford an adequate welfare system. But my government has sought to alleviate some of the pain.
Our focus is to make our youth employable. There is a gap in technicals skills.
We shall ensure that by 2017 we have 3,000 classrooms so that no more students would be left behind and ensure education for all our children.
In 2015, over 900,000 students sat KCPE exams and over 175,000 are sitting idle and vulnerable without opportunity for secondary education.
Wish to engage MPS to build over 3000 secodary schools by 2017. Wish to work with MPs to provide sufficient capitation for our students.
Education has bee vital pipeline of opportunity in Kenya.
Consultations to change 8:4:4 system ongoing. Working to restore integrity of our exam system.
President Kenyatta says over 1 million class One and class Two pupils will have access to digital learning.
Our promise to roll out digital learning program will be completed this year.
22,000 primary schools have been connected to electricity.
Mr Speaker, I am convinced that we can use digital education to transform the future of our young people and economy.
That is why we have taken swift and stern action against those involved in exam cheating.
It is not enough to be number one in Africa. My administration takes this as a priority…to eliminate ignorance.
World Economic report of 2014 says our quality of education is first in Africa.
If we remain true to the least common denominator, the covenant, the state of the Nation will remain strong.
I understand the frustrations of people who feel that investigations have been manipulated to serve the corrupt and defeat justice.
We want the private sector to design tools to forestall corruption.
Today, hiding proceeds of corruption has been made more difficult.
Decision to fire a third of my cabinet due to corruption was a very painful but necessary step.
The Chief Justice has set up a special crimes division to deal with economic crimes cases.
We have trained and deployed more prosecutors to try corruption cases.
Sh1.6 billion has been set aside to support the fight against corruption.
CSs, PSs have been charged with corruption and they cannot use their powerful status to stop prosecution.
There are many corruption cases in courts, involving many involving senior govt officers.
We have sought renewed scrutiny of public officers.
Our nation has for long time been involved in a protracted war against corruption with mixed results that do not meet Kenyans expectations.
It is important that we celebrate achievements but also discuss shortcomings of leaders.
Is there safe clean drinking water, regular garbage collections in the counties?
It is absolutely critical that every Kenyan demands accountability from those who manage resources

In his last address, President Kenyatta reviewed his achievements in each sector, the positive economic figures, his support for devolution and wide ranging reforms which were contained in the Jubilee manifesto.

In his second State of the Nation Address on March 26, 2015, President Kenyatta announced a corruption purge where 175 public officials, including Cabinet secretaries, governors and senators, were to step aside to pave the way for investigations.
