THE Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation has handed over 19 houses for health workers in Katavi and Rukwa regions valued over 1.3bn/-.
The colorful handing over ceremony was held at Kabungu dispensary in Mpanda District, Katavi region.
The former Prime Minister, Mr Mizengo
Pinda attended the occasion as the guest of honor. Foundation Chief
Executive Officer, Dr Ellen Senkoro briefed the retired premier that
apart from constructing houses for health personnel the foundation has
also employed about 63 medical personnel who were dispatched to both
regions of Katavi and Rukwa.
According to Dk Senkoro the foundation
in its effort to address shortages of teaching staff it has employed
eight teachers to health colleges in Rukwa region.
Dr Senkoro further elaborated that the
foundation has closely been working with the Ministry of Health,
Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children since 2011 in effort
to address challenges facing the health sector in the country including
shortages of skilled medical workers and staff quarters.
According to Dr Senkoro already the
foundation has built 480 houses in the country for medical personnel
among them 40 houses are in Katavi and Rukwa regions.
Mr Pinda lauded the foundation for the
job well done in promoting the health sector particularly in rural area
by seriously addressing myriads of challenges ranging from shortages of
houses, skilled medical staff and lack of proper operation rooms.
On her part , a nurse at Kabungu
Dispensary, Ms Rose Mpimbe admitted that the houses handed over by the
foundation will help and encourage medical staff to discharge their
duties perfectly well compared to the past when they had rented houses
at Kangwila village, about two kilometers away.
