THE government has allocated over 10.1bn/- for road infrastructure development during the 2015-16 financial year in Rukwa region.
The Tanzania National Roads Agency
(Tanroads) Regional Manager, Engineer Masuka Mkina, said 1.6bn/- would
be spent on the improvement of trunk roads spanning to 315.51 kilometres
and 26 bridges.
Similarly, according to Eng. Mkina, over
8.4bn/- would be spent for the improvement of regional roads spanning
to 694.93 kilometres and 58 bridges.
He further said that Katavi Region had a
total of 1,210.60 km road network supervised by the Ministry of Works
through Tanroads, out of which 407 .94 kms being trunk roads while
802.66 kms are regional roads.
On his part, the former Katavi Regional
Commissioner, Mr Magalula Said Magalula, who chaired the roads board
meeting cautioned residents in the area as well as in the region at
large to be vigilant and ensure that the infrastructure including roads
were not vandalised, because it costs huge amounts of taxpayers’ money.
Meanwhile, Rukwa region has planned to
spend over 13.6bn/- for routine and recurrent maintenance, periodic
maintenance spot improvement, bridges preventive maintenance and,
repairing of major bridges for the 2016-17 fiscal years
