THE Tanzania and Zambia authorities have expressed their commitment to address the challenges facing the Tanzania and Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA), so that it delivers effectively and with efficiency.
Opening a Joint Permanent Commission
between Tanzania and Zambia in Dar es Salaam, the Deputy Permanent
Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , East African, Regional
and International Cooperation, Ambassador, Ramadhani Mwinyi said it was
for the interest of both countries that the challenges facing the
railway line are being addressed ones and for all.
He said the challenges have been
rallying behind TAZARA operations and its performance therefore during
the meeting the matter will be among the agendas. “We will use all means
possible to ensure that the challenges are being addressed for improved
efficiency of TAZARA,” said Ambassador Mwinyi.
In his opening speech he expressed hopes
that the meeting will discuss and make decisions on other important
issues that will lead to the strengthening of the bilateral cooperation
for improved welfare of the citizens of both countries.
He said that the meeting will discuss
wide range of issues in trade, industry, finance, energy, communication
and transport, education, science and technology, youth, sports,
information, culture, tourism, agriculture, natural resources,
environment and mining sector.
“These are some areas which both
countries attach great importance for further development, and the
deliberations will have positive impact and bring development by
identifying modalities of implementing the agreed areas of cooperation”
he said.
On their part, Zambia representative in
the meeting said the two countries are endowed with natural resources,
which if well harnessed could lead to the transformation of economies
