According to the company’s Country
Director, Mr Nick McAleer, the plant represents an investment of
1.5bn/-and is part of the company’s significant growth plans for
bringing Oryx Gas to all parts of the country.
“Previously we used to send cylinders to
Kenya for liquefaction”. By building a plant here in Tanzania, we have
created jobs and facilitated our quality assurance processes.
“The objective is to continue to ensure
that Oryx Energies cylinders in the market are safe for all our
customers to enjoy,” said Mr McAleer whose company is the country’s
market leader in LPG with over 1 million cylinders in circulation.
According to him, the liquefaction plant
is operated by a team of 10 people and is currently capable of
refilling 200 cylinders per day. The company has been promoting LPG in
Africa for over 15 years and aims to deliver LPG cylinders to every
corner of Tanzania.
“Our goal is to help people replace
charcoal and firewood, which damage the environment and people’s
health,” stated Mr McAleer. Oryx Energies is a pan- African company that
has been present in Tanzania since 1999.
The size of the country and its
strategic port in Dar es Salaam make Tanzania an important market and
point of access to East Africa, including the landlocked Great Lakes
countries. Over the years, they have continuously invested and expanded
in the country.
