WORKS, Transport and Communications Minister, Prof Makame Mbarawa, has directed construction firms to offer employment contracts to its labourers in accordance to their profession so as to improve efficiency in implementation of the construction projects.
Prof Mbarawa made the directive here
yesterday while inspecting the Dodoma-Babati Road, saying the move would
help to speed up construction projects to be completed on time.
“Labourers should be given legal
contracts in accordance with their profession which comply with the
labour law,” said the Minister at the Dodoma-Babati road construction
site during his official tour.
The road construction project has been
divided into three areas namely Dodoma-Mayamaya 43.65 km, Mayamaya-Mela
99.35 km and Mela-Bonga 88.8 km.
The road construction project includes
four large bridges including of the 200 metres Kalema Bridge. Other
three bridges are the 45 metres Msui Bridge, the 30 metres Kingali
Bridge and the 30 metres Mela Bridge.
The Dodoma-Babati is part of the
Great-North stretching from Cairo in Egypt to Cape Town in South Africa.
Prof Mbarawa directed the construction firm, which is carrying out the
road project, to finalize the construction before the rainy season
noting that the road would facilitate economic development.
The Minister noted that it was vital for the public projects to show value for money by lasting long.
On his part, TANROADS Engineer,
Deusdedit Kakoko assured the minister of timely completion of the work
and said the road would open economic opportunities in Dodoma, Manyara
and Arusha.
The part of the road which connects
between Dodoma and Mayamaya has been completed by 80 per cent while
Mayamaya-Mela part has been completed by 52.2 per cent and Mela-Bonga
part has been finalized by 45.17 per cent
