NEWLY appointed Permanent Secretaries and their deputies took an integrity pledge after they were sworn in during a colourful ceremony in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Prior to the taking of the oaths, President John Magufuli told the PSs that anyone who didn’t agree to the pledge or couldn’t conform to it was free to step aside and not sign but no one flinched.
After the oath and the signing of the newly introduced pledge where one copy goes to the Commissioner of Ethics and the other to the signee of the pledge, the Prime Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa said that the pledge taking would be a continuous process and regional and district commissioners would go through the same.
“Let me take this opportunity to congratulate you all for being sworn in and taking the oath. We have promised the people of this country to be open, ethical, trustful and if good results are to be obtained, these pledges need to be taken and adhered to,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that after regional and district commissioners have taken the oath, executive directors at council level will also take the pledge because they are people who will be entrusted with funds for development projects.
He said that it was the expectation of the public that the funds for particular development projects are used for the intended reasons adding that the government will intensify its efforts to continue building trust within the public.
When the pledge taking exercise was complete, the Chief Secretary who was also sworn in for his second tenure informed the PSs that today morning (January 2, 2016) there would be a guidance seminar for them.
Newly sworn in Ministry of Foreign Affairs, East African, Regional and International Affairs Permanent Secretary, Dr Aziz Mlima thanked President Magufuli for the confidence and trust he has bestowed on him and that with the aid of the pledge will ensure that he conducts his big task ahead with the highest level of integrity.
Dr Mlima said that he considers himself to be at an advantage having served in a mission for over a year and has experience of the challenges that exist but intends to work as team with everyone at the Ministry to get solutions to the challenges that exist both in and outside the country.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Major General Gaudence Milanzi said that poaching was top of his agenda and that he intends to come up with solutions that will compliment efforts already being implemented by the Ministry.
Major General Milanzi said that apart from poaching, there are other challenges that the ministry faces like encroachment of national parks because it is a cross cutting issue and it needs skilled and qualified human resources
