Clerics pray for all-round national peace, prosperity

THE culture of diligence, trust and commitment to create a corruption-free society as advocated by President John Magufuli calls for concerted efforts to guarantee prosperity of Tanzania, which joined the rest of the world in welcoming the new year yesterday.

The Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Mr William Lukuvi, made the remarks at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on New Year’s eve as he represented President John Magufuli during prayers organised by the Fellowship Churches of Tanzania.
“As President Magufuli takes action against corruption and tax evasion, we (Tanzanians) have the obligation at everyone’s capacity to expose dishonest members of the society in our midst. Prayers will make everything possible,” Lukuvi said.
The minister said since he assumed the highest office, President Magufuli’s performance has touched the feelings of the majority and prayers will give him strength and confidence to move ahead.
“Let the faithful pray for the evil to become responsible citizens,” he appealed. He named the kind of support that every individual could give to the president.
These included fighting corruption at its elementary stage, stop drug trafficking and addiction, stop thefts and misappropriation of public funds by the entrusted government officials among others.
“Your (prayer teams) have reminded us of the need to be thankful to God for blessings we have received like having the right and God-fearing president whose work has caught the attention of many people in the country and beyond borders.
Again religious leaders have a significant contribution to make for the country’s prosperity by enlightening the faithful about the need to work hard and strengthen peace and unity,” Lukuvi concluded.
