Magufuli axes PS, dissolves TPA board over port scandals

PRESIDENT John Magufuli has relieved the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport of his duties, dissolved the board at Tanzania Port Authority (TPA) and revoked the appointment of its chair Prof Joseph Msambichaka and the Director General Mr Awadhi Massawe.

The Head of State has also axed the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport Dr Shaban Mwinjaka and pledged to assign him elsewhere.

Making the announcements at a highly attended press conference at his office in Dar es salaam on Monday morning, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said the steps have been taken following his recent visits at the port on November 27 and December 3 this year.

The PM said President Magufuli has dissolved the board and revoked appointments of the leaders on grounds of ‘very poor performance’ at the Tanzania Port Authority and the act of the said leaders not taking action in the face of scandals at the port.
