THE Civic United Front (CUF) has asked members and supporters to be patient and remain calm as efforts were well underway to resolve the political impasse in Zanzibar, which has so far affected incomes of the majority of the people in the Isles.

It has also called on the people of Zanzibar to be patient as Union President John Magufuli was working on a solution for the political impasse in the Isles following the nullification of results and cancellation of the general election in October.
The party’s Director of Information and Communications, Mr Ismail Jussa Ladhu, made the call in a news conference here yesterday, saying that talks aimed at finding a solution to the impasse between CCM and CUF leaders were going on.
“The people will be informed about the deliberations reached from the ongoing meetings after their completion,” said Mr Jussa. Mr Jussa used the opportunity to express his gratitude to Dr Magufuli for his efforts to find a solution to the political situation in the Isles, pointing out that the Union president had already met with Zanzibar President Ali Mohamed Shein and Zanzibar First Vice-President, Mr Seif Sharif Hamad. “Zanzibaris should not accept information aimed at inciting and dividing them.
They should be patient while our leaders are seeking solution for the political situation,” he appealed. Mr Jussa convened the press conference at his office in Vuga area to respond to the CCM’s statement on the elections, claiming that it was misleading when even discussions at the State House are not over.
“Discussions at the State House are soon coming to an end with an agreement. Our top leaders are proceeding well and President Magufuli has been pressing for a quick solution. Let us give them time,’’ the CUF leader told reporters.
According to Mr Jussa, CUF leaders will respect the voices of the majority of the people as shown during the general election on October 25. The party will not let down Zanzibaris and we shall remain firm in our demand for democracy to be respected,” said Mr Jussa.
Last Sunday, members of the Special Zanzibar Committee of the CCM National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting here commended the ongoing efforts to resolve the dispute.
However, the special committee, chaired by President Shein in the presence of Union Vice-President, Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan, asked CCM party members to prepare for fresh elections on a date to be announced by the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC).
In a press communiqué signed by the Secretary of Ideology and Publicity of the Special Committee, Ms Waride Bakar Jabu, CCM members have been asked to prepare and work hard for victory in the fresh polls as the previous ones were marred by several irregularities
